Norwegian Seafarer's Medical Examinations

Both Dr's Moe are approved seafarer's doctors under the Norwegian Maritime Authority - a full list of approved seafarer's doctorer can be found here.

The Norwegian Sjøfartsdirektoratet /Maritime Authority requires that employees are medically fit for service on board ship and pose no risk to others or to the running of the ship. Anyone working on a Norwegian ship is required to have a valid Certificate as per NMA regulations. There are, however some exceptions to this requirement. If you are unsure whether or not you require a medical certificate, you should contact your employer or the Norwegian Maritime Authority directly.

The NMA seafarer's medical is founded in ILO/IMO regulation and guidance and is highly regarded by maritime employers worldwide. As such, many cruise lines require this medical certificate as part of their pre-employment assessment. Often further investigations are required as part of these medical exams - see below for more information.

Certification generally lasts for 2 years unless restrictions limiting scope of duties on medical grounds are required.

About the medical examination

The medical exam lasts at least 30 minutes depending on the complexity of the exam and any additional testing that may be required.

n.b. You MUST BRING ACCEPTABLE PHOTO ID with you to verify your identity

A valid Passport or Driver's license is required and must be brought with you on the day - photocopies will not be accepted - please bear this in mind in terms of timing a visa application where you may need to submit your passport to an embassy for a period of time.

other helpful documentation

If you have a significant medical history, it would be beneficial to bring any GP/hospital records or clinic letters.
